SAUWS Trustee positions

The elected students who run SAUWS are known as the ’Board of Trustees’. This management board is made up of different positions with different remits. Each year SAUWS runs elections to allow the student body to vote in their preferred candidates to serve in these posts for the next academic year. The term of office starts on the 1st July and finishes on 30th June.

Often referred to as ’sabbs’, these sabbatical posts are filled by elected students who work full time for SAUWS during their term in office. Anyone who is a member of SAUWS can stand, (unless restricted by legislation) whether you’re about to graduate or are midway through your course. As a team, the sabbs are responsible and held accountable for every bit of the Association and make decisions about all levels of activity. There are 5 sabbatical positions in total.

President

Depute President Education & Welfare

Sports President

Campus President Ayr

Campus President Hamilton

There are also 9 non-sabbatical posts which are taken up by current students on a part time and voluntary basis and who support the sabbs as well as being full members of the Board of Trustees.

Ordinary Trustee (3 each for Ayr, Hamilton & Paisley campuses)

NUS Conference Delegations

Every year SAUWS sends a delegation to each of NUS Scotland and NUS UK Annual Conferences. This is where policy is passed which sets the priorities of the National Union for the coming year. It is a requirement of NUS’ Constitution that each delegate is elected by a cross-campus ballot. All students registered at UWS are able to stand and vote in this election.

For information on both these conferences please contact the President (president@sauws.org.uk
